I am going to install the sides for an internal reveal for a window door and I'm a bit uncertain about how to do it properly.
The top part is already in place, installed by some craftsmen who put in the window door, but since the floor wasn't in place, they couldn't fix the sides.
My idea was simply to glue (with PL600) the MDF to the studs, but I realize now that to maintain the same distance from the edge of the frame (40mm) as it is at the top and around our windows, I need to bring the MDF 4mm out from the stud.
My first thought was to nail or glue up hardboard and then glue against that, but I'm not sure if that's a good solution (the glue might not adhere well, etc.).
How would you have done it?

It turned out perfect with masonite ("Board hård" from Bauhaus: https://www.bauhaus.se/hard-board-import-3-0mm.html), attached it with a few strings of PL400 and PL600 and then did the same with the MDF against the masonite. It’s stayed in place so far and the measurements were correct.
