You will notice if it won't hold. Attach it with anchors and then screw it on. Don't tighten the screw too much so that you don't take the board with you.R Razid said:
Once you've screwed it in, just gently tug on the bracket and feel. If it's firmly secured, the lamp will never fall down. Normally, there's no strain on a lamp, so it will stay there.
With 99.9% certainty, you can drill, insert a plug, and mount your lamp.R Razid said:
If anything happens, I would guess that the panel either cracks because it's made of some odd material that isn't commonly used, or you tighten the screw too hard in the plug, causing a piece of the panel to come out with it (like popping a tent).
I would say it's unlikely that you would mount the lamp and then it falls because the panel can't hold it. That's if you use a plug.
Everything that is screwed into chipboard that needs to be really secure should be pre-drilled, not using self-drilling screws. The drill bit should be slightly smaller than the screw's core between the thread peaks. Just driving a screw straight in will cause some material to be pushed out at the back of the board, splitting it, and with a wall plug, pre-drilling is necessary. The plug should go through the board by at least 1 cm, and a long screw should go completely through the plug to ensure it becomes larger than the hole. It is possible to screw into chipboard directly, and it depends entirely on what needs to be fastened, whether using 1-2 screws or many, but if it needs to be secure, drilling is the only option.
Now, after maybe a little too long, I have set up the lamp that I asked about. It's mounted with assembly screws without plugs, and I pre-drilled before screwing. Everything went great and it's firmly in place. Thanks for the tips and advice!
