Assuming "could this be asbestos?" is a frequently recurring question here but well, I'll add another one.

Renovating a bathroom on the second floor of a 1 1/2-story house from 1976. Not sure if the current status is original or if it has been renovated later. Previous owners have had lots of screw holes in the walls, even in the shower, so there will be some demolition where moisture has seeped in.

The first thing I'm wondering about is a wall that consists of some chipboard + plaster. The plaster is only held in place by a few nails, oddly enough, but it looks like there is some sort of adhesive involved too. Maybe that's come loose due to moisture. Everything is completely dry now anyway.

The second question concerns the tiles. It almost looks like they're glued directly to the wall...?

What do you think, risk of asbestos?

Wall in a bathroom under renovation, partially torn to reveal a board structure behind plaster, with a toilet on the side. Concerns about potential asbestos. Close-up of a partially stripped wall showing particle board and drywall layers, with visible glue residue and peeling sections, in a home renovation context. Damaged wall with tiles removed, showing adhesive remnants. Pieces of tile and adhesive debris visible on the surface, indicating renovation in progress.

Yes, there is a risk that you have it in the tile adhesive or for example in the glue for the floor mat. Sampling is the only way to know for sure.
