and tape it on with double-sided tape, since it's aluminum, unless you can suggest a good glue.
My question is IF IT'S DANGEROUS, meaning toxic to breathe in, say you are cutting it and inhale A LOT of dust.
I will have it on a machine, and thus the vibrations will cause some wear.
I don't want to be surprised after I start the project, so I'm asking now instead.
AND I wonder if it's possible to saw/cut it, as I need to do it to make it fit, there are handles and other things on the air purifier.

The asbestos fibers are probably gone, I've cleaned the whole house, but more asbestos keeps coming in. I can tell you that a normal lung has 10,000-10,000,00 for every gram of lung tissue at autopsy. BUT I'm joking a little, there are other things in the air that shouldn't be there. My goal is to be able to have it on all day without being disturbed. At the highest setting, it makes 65 decibels. My air purifier will not be silent, I know that and it has been pointed out in my other thread. This is a step along the way.. as I write.

Bitumen I will not use. It is a highly questionable substance. Just smell the crap.
Be glad you live in this country, I work a bit in China and sometimes it is downright difficult to breathe, smoking is healthier here at home than breathing their air.
Foam rubber IS crap, in cars it's used under the interior and stuff, so it's not in direct contact with the air, it also crumbles over time, and it is certainly more harmful to health than bitumen. I don't think bitumen smells that bad at all, not worse than what these foam rubber mats do.

I was at Biltema sniffing the bitumen mats, and my god, they smelled... As mentioned, they aren't supposed to be very healthy, and I'd rather follow things I read than something Kalle said during the coffee break the day he tore down the asbestos roof just because he was so tough.
If it's as you say that these foam mats don't do much, then I might as well start considering the ultimate solution—which is to build a big box that I insulate.

I have used a lot of that stuff to insulate computer cases etc., and it doesn't work that well, most noise follows material and things, that's why bitumen is used because it makes it all solid, it's used more frequently in cars than Biltema's foam mats. The noise from fans and blowers can't be reduced without reducing airflow, so it's the vibrations you can do something about in the first place, and you might as well throw a towel over them as buy these mats.raddforasbest said:

The mat is meant to be used in engine compartments, not in the cabin of cars, and not in houses.

And if you are no longer afraid of the asbestos, then turn off the machine and put it away.
With such a high noise level, it will ruin your life otherwise.
Why not just sleep with a gas mask on?

But when vacuuming, the machine itself makes the most noise? If you only listen to the actual intake at the hose, it doesn't sound extremely loud?
Moreover, there are mufflers for ventilation hoses, do they just reduce airflow...... Why not just put a panel in front then..

You do realize that dB adds up, if machine a creates sound a1, machine b b1 ...... machine ö ö1, no serious person would have said it doesn't matter if we remove all machines except ö because it would sound the same as before.......
