Hello,
renovating walls is quite new to me, and I have a few questions I hope someone can answer.
I'm currently renovating a room with Tretex panels. In another room, I tried plastering (not a great experience on Tretex), and in another room, I put renovation plasterboard on top (better experience but quite a bit more work with moldings, etc.).
This time, I've decided to tear down the crap since I'm getting quite tired of fighting with it and instead put up standard thickness plasterboards (not renovation plasterboard).
When I started pulling out nails and tearing down the first panels on the outer wall, I discovered that there is a reflective plastic film (think aluminum foil) between the Tretex and the raw boards. That made me a bit hesitant, and my beginner's knowledge was suddenly exposed.
I assume I want to keep this film (guessing it's some kind of vapor barrier?).
But the question is how it's attached, and if instead of pulling out nails, I should be hammering them in after removing the panels? I'm thinking that every nail hole (and yes, there are many, it's Tretex...) has broken this barrier?
Additionally, I haven't quite figured out how the film is fastened and am a little worried it might come loose as soon as I pull out the last nails.
Can someone give a novice some advice, tips, and help here?
After sleeping on it, I've now started to wonder if there might be some suitable tape or something similar that can be used for the nail holes possibly?
It's usually not hermetically sealed with plastic wrap in the walls. There are always seams and small holes. There will be new holes when you screw up the drywall as well. Sure, it's possible to tape the holes. But I wouldn't be so worried about old nail holes.
