So I'm sitting and drawing a carport that I plan to build, and it turns out that the roof rafters need to be seven meters long to cover the entire driveway. So my question is - where can I even get such lumber? Or do I have to look at glulam beams for that length? Glulam beams are like ten times more expensive though, so I hope not.

What advice do you have?

Building roof trusses? Please post a sketch.

There are no logs in the forest that are cut longer than 5.5 m
Finished timber is at most 5.4 m
So it will have to be spliced.

Yes, there are finger-jointed studs. But if you don't have any support in the middle, you'll probably need to use kertobalkar to achieve bearing capacity in the ceiling.

There are jointed studs, so length is not an issue. They can usually be purchased at a regular lumberyard or building supply store. However, the span will be very long, as you surely realize. However, I cannot comment on which dimensions are suitable there.

It will probably be difficult to achieve that without a support in the middle........although there is definitely room for two cars there, so support in the middle might not be impossible to achieve?

Check out the Swedish wood industry's website. They have standard drawings and calculation templates for all kinds of constructions.

You won't manage a 7 m span without substantial glulam beams or steel beams.

I've taken a walk in the area and seen several carports without support in the middle, though... Maybe I should take another walk and check.

But then they most likely have trusses that support the roof and not a simple "regelprofil"....

That hasn't been my understanding, but I won't say too much before I've checked again.

It seems impossible. You also have to consider snow load. The four vertical posts will also not be able to handle it.
The carport seems to be against a wall. Is there a possibility to attach support cables from the middle of the joists to the building higher up? Like a suspension bridge.

Here is a slightly better sketch of how the carport connects to the house and garage

Nice with a bigger garage than house!

A beam in the middle with a post on each side might be something?

Here is a better link where you can input your values and get recommended beams. However, I would have built some form of gable roof with that span. Contact a structural engineer or truss manufacturer who can calculate and give you a quote on what it might cost.
