Hello!

I got a burst of super-energy this weekend and created an opening in the ceiling to install an attic ladder I found for a bargain price. Since we moved in, I've planned to use the space in the attic, and now I've made that possible.

However, I'm torn about which flooring to choose. I've talked to different people, and they say different things, so I'm reaching out to a broader audience! For example, I've heard that 23mm raw plank panels are sufficient, but if it's not a panel, I need to upgrade to 28mm raw plank (i.e., not a panel). The raw plank panel was recommended by XL bygg, and although it might wobble a bit, it's okay to walk on and store some simple items. The items to be stored are the usual stuff, Christmas decorations, some winter clothes/shoes.

Help me navigate through this!

20mm tongue and groove boards are sufficient if nothing heavy will be stored; I previously had 17mm in my attic and it worked fine.

I have a section today where I have placed two tongue and groove boards at 17mm, and it flexes in the middle. I weigh about 100kg myself, but two boards are obviously weaker than if it were a complete floor. 20mm sounds good from an economic perspective as that board and hatch are much cheaper.

But two boards are weak, but if you have at least 60cm in width with tongue-and-groove boards, it will definitely support you. How wide does it need to be?

If it's a cold attic, make sure to store things properly, mouse and climate-proof.

It will be about 2.5m wide 1200cc, but about 9m long when I'm finally done.

Yes, then 20mm tongue and groove will be good and stable, it is the common thickness nowadays.

I just measured and it was 10700mm in length and 2780mm in width on 1200cc.

Just be mindful of the total weight when you clutter the attic so it doesn't become too much given that you have such large areas..

Not completely sure if I'll cover the whole thing, but probably half at most, then a railing for fall protection so no fool goes through the roof 🤦‍♂️😂

Yeah, you don't just let anyone up in the attic😉

Having air between the floor and insulation to allow circulation is an advantage. I would also personally choose to increase the size of the floor and then not use tongue-and-groove so there is air between the floorboards as well.

I'm not going all the way to the edges so I think that should be enough(?).

Lay the råspont as you've planned, it will be fine..
