I am building a bathroom and the plumber has just been here. Now I need to put up all the boards (construction plywood and plasterboards) and must drill holes in the boards for pipe installation with as much precision as possible. What is the best way to do this? Are there any clever tricks, or is it simply a matter of careful measurement with a tape measure? Grateful for any tips.

  • Wooden framing with plumbing pipes in a room under construction, preparing for drywall installation. A variety of pipes are visible against concrete walls.

Folding rule and hole saw are probably what works best when the pipes are already there..

I'm going to do exactly the same thing this week.

Tape measure and accuracy are good. An alternative is a cross laser that you align on the center of the pipe without the board, and then place the board and cut.

The problem is that I can't place the sheet because the pipes stick out so much. But... the wall is open from the back, and the pipes are attached with snap fasteners, so I might be able to loosen the snap fasteners, place the sheet, and mark the center from behind through the metal sheet where the fixture is attached. That should be relatively smooth.

I had removed the pipes, placed the discs, drilled a small hole in the center, then used the hole saw from the front, and then put the pipes in place.

I will do this in a few weeks, and this tip will simplify so much for me! Thank you!
