Hey! I'm planning to spruce up our fireplace, which has a Keddy insert. The idea is to tidy up the surfaces around it without removing the insert. We use it pretty much daily.
Is gypsum plaster okay for this? Or should we use something else?

It depends on the temperature. Plaster does not fare well with prolonged periods of heating. Then the water of crystallization leaves and it can weather.

Do not do it during the heating season, the bruket will dry before it has finished burning.
