I have plans to tear down a wall about 3 meters long in our house to create a larger kitchen, and the more I've thought about it, the more uncertain I've become about what type of wall it is. The house is one-story with a basement and from the late 1930s, so there are no blueprints. The exterior dimensions of the house are about 9*11 meters.

The wall I want to tear down is parallel to what I assume is the main structural wall. Unlike the main wall, the wall that is causing me concern rests only on the floor joists (there is an inner wall under the main wall). The house has a hipped roof, and the wall I want to tear down is not under the "ridge".

I have removed the surface layer and found that the wall consists of 2-inch rough boards + drywall on both sides.

Can I attempt to deal with this wall myself, or should I call in professionals for support? Is it possible that support is needed even if the wall is not load-bearing due to settling, etc.?

Grateful for an answer...

It doesn't sound like it's load-bearing. But if you want to be completely sure, contact a structural engineer for an on-site visit.
