Is it possible to demolish one side of the lower floor's wall (long side) made of wood on a 2-story house and then construct a reinforced wall that can withstand ground pressure? (it will become a basement)

The alternative I have is to place L-supports along the entire building. (expensive too)

Why? What has happened for the ground surface to have risen in that way since the house was built?
Split-level houses and finished basements have a well-deserved bad reputation for moisture damage and mold.

If the house has a normal site-built wooden frame, it can probably be supported and bricked up....... but it's not cheap and requires skilled professionals......and then you're left with a split-level house...... which are usually risky....
