I have renovated my kitchen and I am in the process of putting up 3 wooden shelves against a drywall.
The shelves (which are 218 cm long) have been placed between 2 concrete walls with small studs that will hopefully bear the weight. (see the picture) To ensure the shelves hold and don’t bend in the middle, I will put up 4 brackets under each shelf (on the drywall).
The wall consists of single drywall that I have tiled. My brackets are 10mm thick, which means there should be a minimum of 13mm + 5mm + 10mm between the plug and the screw head (single drywall + tile + bracket).
I have received various tips from different hardware stores, some recommend molly plugs, others universal plugs. I am a bit uncertain about which are the best, as I ideally want to avoid damaging the tiles (I am a bit afraid that if I use molly, they might expand so much that the tiles crack.) What do you think?
I have already drilled holes for all the brackets, 8mm.
Do you have any tips on what you think I should use?
I had used 8mm nylon plugs (universal plugs). Metal expanders (molly) are great, but against the tiles, there's a risk that the whole plug will start to rotate when you screw it in.
Make sure to use sufficiently long screws (10mm for the bracket + plug length).
Do you think the shelves/wall will hold the weight? I wasn't planning on putting really heavy things on the shelves, but you know, one can get a bit worried
