I'm going to partition a living room here at home to create an additional bedroom. I have most of it figured out, but I'm a bit unsure whether (and if so, what) I should place between the existing floor and the joist I screw into the floor.

The floor is a 28 mm spruce floor on a chipboard subfloor.

I have the following at home that is lying around. Could it be suitable – I'm thinking the purpose is the extra soundproofing one gets.

  • A roll of gray foam insulation lies on a wooden floor, with a measuring stick placed on top to indicate its size.
  • A hand holds a ruler measuring the thickness of a rolled grey rubber mat, likely used for soundproofing or insulation, on a wooden floor.

Normally, there is nothing under the stud closest to the floor. Soundproofing should be in the wall, it is of no use underneath.

You are thinking correctly, you should always have something between the sill and the wooden floor to avoid movement noise, alternatively screw-glue the stud to the wooden floor but then you lock the floor's movements more…
Foam works excellently.

One typically doesn't place a wooden sole directly against a wooden floor without gluing in between to avoid movement noise… But foam probably works well in combination with screwing the sole, so it should be fine…
