Hello
We live in a crosshouse that we have been renovating in phases over a long period. The house is two stories with a basement, built in the 1920s, and is situated on a slope. The house has slowly been sinking on the side facing downward into the ground over the years. To try to prevent this, we excavated and replaced the dirt floor with a concrete slab over a couple of years. Now that job is finished, and the basement is nearly fully furnished.
Now to my question: It seems like there are settlements in the house, and I don't quite understand why; it also feels very unsettling that this is happening right now. We had a building engineer take a quick look, and he suggested we keep an eye on it for a while. However, it doesn't feel very reassuring since I don't know much about this. Can anyone here calm a worried heart, or should we pack our bags and leave???

Hello and welcome to the Byggahus forum!

Much more information about the house and plot is needed to be able to comment on this. When settlements occur, it is often because the house's foundation method does not match the ground's load-bearing capacity.
