requirements on substrate for self-leveling compound ?
hello.
working on fixing up a room in the basement that I plan to turn into a gym d^_^b
noticed the floor was pretty scabby once I cleared all the junk, so I thought I would self-level it to make it nicer...
it's concrete floor and walls, so it should pretty much just be a matter of priming and pouring the self-leveling compound, but it looks like there was self-leveling compound with glued linoleum pieces originally on the floor... they are gone but there are some glue residues left... do they need to be removed to be able to self-level or is it enough to sweep over with a broom to remove most of it and then prime and self-level, or will it all go awry??

I wouldn't take a chance without renting a concrete grinder or buying an adapter for the angle grinder, I found one of those at Bauhaus for 80 SEK I think, but it depends on how big the room is if you can manage with it. Otherwise, to remove the glue residues, maybe a wire brush for a drill or angle grinder would work. Use a half or full mask because it creates a hell of a lot of dust.
yes then you need some heavier stuff... the whole room is almost 7 square meters so it's not that big... I checked a bit more yesterday and there's a thin layer of self-leveling compound where the glue is so I used a crowbar and pried it off so now the whole chunk with glue is gone
took about 20 sec hehe
I believe it was self-leveled before but very thin if so. Maybe 2-3 mm and it adheres so-so. About 97% of the floor is already bare concrete as the previous owners of the house had started with the room and were going to tidy it up, so it's basically in one corner in a square where there are old linoleum tiles and self-leveling left, but as I said, it doesn't adhere very well, so I've been sitting with a spatula and hammer and have pretty much chipped away everything already, so when it gets self-leveled, the old will be gone...el_ias said:
