hello.
working on fixing up a room in the basement that I plan to turn into a gym d^_^b
noticed the floor was pretty scabby once I cleared all the junk, so I thought I would self-level it to make it nicer...

it's concrete floor and walls, so it should pretty much just be a matter of priming and pouring the self-leveling compound, but it looks like there was self-leveling compound with glued linoleum pieces originally on the floor... they are gone but there are some glue residues left... do they need to be removed to be able to self-level or is it enough to sweep over with a broom to remove most of it and then prime and self-level, or will it all go awry??

I wouldn't take a chance without renting a concrete grinder or buying an adapter for the angle grinder, I found one of those at Bauhaus for 80 SEK I think, but it depends on how big the room is if you can manage with it. Otherwise, to remove the glue residues, maybe a wire brush for a drill or angle grinder would work. Use a half or full mask because it creates a hell of a lot of dust.

Yes, the actual area that has a bit of glue on it isn't very large... it might be half a square meter, so it shouldn't be too difficult to go over it with the sander.

No, then it's nothing to gamble on, a bit more troublesome if it was 30 sqm.

yes then you need some heavier stuff... the whole room is almost 7 square meters so it's not that big... I checked a bit more yesterday and there's a thin layer of self-leveling compound where the glue is so I used a crowbar and pried it off so now the whole chunk with glue is gone :) took about 20 sec hehe

was it self-leveled there previously? check if it's holding, I've experienced that they didn't prime and had to remove the old leveling.

I believe it was self-leveled before but very thin if so. Maybe 2-3 mm and it adheres so-so. About 97% of the floor is already bare concrete as the previous owners of the house had started with the room and were going to tidy it up, so it's basically in one corner in a square where there are old linoleum tiles and self-leveling left, but as I said, it doesn't adhere very well, so I've been sitting with a spatula and hammer and have pretty much chipped away everything already, so when it gets self-leveled, the old will be gone...

but then it's just to go ahead:) good luck

Yep.. they will be purchased this week... I've ordered the stuff for the gym that needs to be there, so I have to work on it so I can start training.

By the way. Does anyone know how many liters you get from a 25kg bag of self-leveling compound... thinking of buying a few buckets so dad can mix while I pour and spread.

Just enough for a typical bricklayer bucket, whatever they are, 15 or 20 liters, 20 I think.

okay I have one that is 17l so it should work.. I'll go buy a couple more since I'm going shopping for primer and spackel tomorrow anyway
