How do you repair cracks on the exterior of a lightweight concrete house? Is there a good filler, do you need to open up the crack into a V before filling it in?

Not all damages need to be repaired. It is wrong to fix a hairline crack, as the crack will then be more visible.
Repair cracks if they are continuous where it can be determined that moisture enters the cracks and causes damage. Repair only very disturbing cracks.
But otherwise, I agree with you, open it up like a V and fill it again with regular plaster mortar C.
