Pipe 50 mm that should withstand a weight of over 50 kg
Hi!
I am building a TV lift where the TV will be lowered from the attic through the ceiling into the living room. I have bought a winch that can handle 200kg, and the actual "box" that the TV will be mounted on will weigh a little over 50kg in total (including construction materials, TV, and center speaker).
The winch has a standard fitting for pipes with a diameter of 50mm that I hope to use. The plan is to mount a post on each lower frame of the rafters for the pipe to hang on. The pipe span will then be about 180cm, and this brings me to my question about what type of pipe would withstand the weight of over 50kg with 180cm between the supports? The pipe will be mounted horizontally.
I have an old mast pipe with the right diameter, but I can't find any information about its strength and don't want to take any chances. I would gratefully receive your opinions on a suitable pipe where I don't need to worry about the pipe breaking and the TV falling from the attic

I would guess that "regular" steel pipes with a 2 mm wall thickness can handle 50 kg, but that's a guess... I don't think you need to worry about the pipe breaking, it bends first, and if it's secured at the ends, it won't fall down...
Thanks for the good answer! Diagonal braces should definitely be doable, I also realized that I could place a generously-sized beam between the supports and then mount a shorter pipe on the beam instead of attaching the winch to it.
