Hello.
I have searched the forum but haven't found a concrete answer on whether:
Can I mount two IKEA wall cabinets in 12mm particle board without having studs to screw into?
The particle boards are likely to stay on the wall, the question is whether the screws will hold at their attachment points in the particle board?

What type of screws should I use if so?
Expansion plugs? Would they help?
Or do I need to place two studs across on top of the particle boards to attach them to the wall studs (I would prefer to avoid this due to the difference in depth it would cause..)?

It depends on how much weight you plan to put on the cabinets. Personally, I'm a bit skeptical about the suggestion; I'd prefer my items to be securely fastened, so I would use studs or some thinner timber.

They will be loaded with plates, glasses, etc.
I assume it can be quite a bit of weight. Not 12 of each though since it's meant to be in a small summer cabin, but still... Won't it work with those expansion plugs or whatever they're called?

They're called Molly bolts or metal expanders, use those, they will hold, but buy the right ones, if you have a simple chipboard i.e. 10-12mm you should buy Molly bolts for 13mm gypsum board.
