Hello,

We have recently installed a ventilated Platon floor in our house. Adjacent to this is a Platon fan. The fan is located on the side of the attic, and its exhaust is directed towards the gable. A duct runs from the floor up to the fan through the ceiling (image platonfläkt3.jpg). Nothing strange there. Our concern is that the actual suction from the floor is noisy. Previously, there was also a whooshing sound from the duct, but we have enclosed it to eliminate the noise (image platfläkt.jpg). However, we need to figure out how to soundproof the suction from the floor before proceeding with anything else. This suction is quite noisy, and we're looking for the best way to eliminate it. Additionally, we're planning to lay flooring soon, and I would like to address this before we do, as I don't believe the flooring will effectively insulate the sound. Do you have any ideas?

  • Built-in ventilation duct in corner of blue room with cloud-painted ceiling.
  • Ventilation pipe and platon flooring installation in progress, showing a metal duct connected to a blue dimpled floor membrane, with construction dust visible.
  • Vertical ventilation duct in a blue-painted room corner extending from the floor to the ceiling, intended for a platon floor ventilation system.
Common sealant perhaps if it whistles at the connection? Insulation around the drum? Carpet on chipboard/gypsum if it works, just own thoughts no experience..

Where have you placed the fan?
I will soon also lay a platonmatta and convert the garage into living space.

Based on the recommendations we received from a third party (not the same company that installed the system), the fan was placed in the side wind just above the room where the fan duct went, with the exhaust through the gable.

Regarding the noise we had, it got fixed. It was due to a nail/screw attaching the duct down there which the air passed and it caused a noise. After that was fixed, it became significantly better. Don't ask me for details as I wasn't present when they fixed it. But it might be a tip to consider during installation.

Could one get a picture of this?

Which brand of fan Isola or Jape?

It is not easy to access. But the fan should be Isola.

Was there any particular reason you let a third party recommend the solution and another build it?`

I was mainly thinking that it might be easier to let the same company develop the solution and then install it, and that way you can bring up these kinds of thoughts/problems with them? :)

For the installation to get the warranty (I believe it's 10 years) approved by Isola, a third and independent party was involved to plan and verify that the installation was good. It must be a party approved by Isola, it should be added.

When I contacted Jape, they wanted 34 for the material and laying the carpet. The fan and spiral work were not included.

That sounded cheap. Our installation cost 6-figures. However, done on 100sqm

Ah, ok

What does the installer say about the noise problems?

If done well, the sound should be minimal or non-existent. It depends on where the pipe goes. In our case, it's in a bedroom but the "suset" is very low.

Yes. And what does the installing company say about you experiencing hissing? Have they had a chance to come and inspect/remedy it?

If you've paid six figures, you shouldn't be the one coming up with solutions :)

As I've written, the noise has been fixed. The pipe is built in today and makes almost no sound.
