I am planning to move an interior wall a little bit, which results in a laminate floor (click floor) partially ending up in the new room. I would prefer not to replace the entire floor just to move the wall, but is it more or less a necessity?

I'm thinking that on one hand, I don't want to install a new floor in the future without first removing the old click floor, and on the other hand, I will immediately want to remove it on the side where the room has been expanded to install a new floor there (currently there's only a plastic mat there which is lower in height).

Perhaps the best solution is to saw off the old floor as far as the new room extends, but is there a good tool for that, like a mini circular saw? The floor is, of course, laid perpendicular to the wall I want to move, so it's not possible to just lift away a few rows of it.

It can easily be cut with any circular saw as you can adjust the depth on these. Use a straightedge as a support for a straight and neat cut. If you have the opportunity to borrow a plunge saw, that's the easiest. This of course assumes you have the space. The last pieces against the wall you can cut with a multi-tool/saw (fein saw).

I would under no circumstances place the wall on the laminate floor.
