Handrail in drywall that has come loose!!

Our handrail has come loose from the wall (plaster) and we are wondering how to best reattach it. The rail is a thick rope with 3 holders that are screwed into the wall with a "double-sided" screw (screwed both into the wall and into the holder..). Hmm, did this make sense..?

The best and most enduring solution is to locate the studs in the wall and attach the fittings to them.
