I'm renovating and need to get hold of baseboards that resemble the original. They are 12mm thick and 56mm high. The ones found in common places have a different curvature on the molding, which is much sharper than the old ones. Any tips?

  • Close-up of an interior corner showing a white baseboard and yellow tape on the floor; seeking similar molding for renovation.
  • A close-up of a white baseboard with a rounded edge, highlighting details for comparison with existing renovation trim.
  • Baseboard and corner of a room with unfinished wood flooring and exposed plaster wall edge.
A steel plane and sandpaper will get you far.

Are you sure the strip has that shape, looks like the next one is patched in.

12x56 mm is an old standard size for baseboards that likely dates back to the late 1930s. This suggests that it is not homemade. I believe that the curvature's radius used to be larger before, but I'm not entirely sure.

ABI trä i Göteborg has this one that is quite similar

Thanks, that one looks very similar!

So that slope is only on certain moldings, but all the ones I've found have too sharp of a rounding.

This one is similar but has too small of a radius on the rounding

Hi! Did you find one in a similar moulding? I'm trying to find a moulding from 1943 that looks similar to the one in the picture, but taller. When I search the link to ABI trä that you got tips on, I can't find the product anymore. I was wondering where you found your moulding in the end. I'll upload a picture of the one I'm looking for.

  • A wooden baseboard and floor corner with paint chips visible on a wooden floor.
  • A hand holding a piece of wood trim with layers of peeling paint, showing red and white colors, against a blurry workshop background.

I ended up making the list myself, only needed a few meters in total, planed and sanded but panelochlist.se could make these lists, however, the startup cost was a few thousand.

Thank you so much! I will check the page you mentioned. Then I can do it for the whole apartment. Or I'll do like you and make it for the hallway myself.

Did you use any special planer or just an old-fashioned one?

I hand-planed it and sanded the rounding with sandpaper, but it probably would have been easier with a router if you were making many. However, I only made a short piece, and it worked okay.

Found the email from 2020

Special manufacturing.

Price approximately 3000-4000 SEK + VAT for steel/setup cost per profile, then running meter price is additional.

Delivery time about 2-3 weeks

Minimum order 20 meters.

Sample piece (about 10 cm) needed for quote/manufacturing.

OK! Thank you so much! Will consider how I should do it.

Abi-trä in Frölunda arranges 30 meters for around 3500:- so that will be the solution. I'll do the whole apartment at once. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Good that you found something that works, manually doing 30m is probably a bit too much. Sure, with a router it probably wouldn't be a problem but sounds worth it.
