I have bought a house from 1962 built by Hultsfredshus. Both the inner and outer walls are made of fiberboard consisting of tretex. The inner surface is then covered with a tretex board that is wallpapered. We have taken down this tretex board and are at the fiberboard. The fiberboards are covered with a windproof paper. The question is whether the purpose of the tretex board is more than just to serve as the inner surface. Or could it be that it is also meant to insulate. Why choose tretex?
I was thinking of running wiring for electricity & data and then covering the walls with gypsum. Possibly covering the wall with an OSB and then a layer of gypsum. Is there a risk of worse insulation if I replace the tretex board with gypsum or OSB and gypsum?
Read somewhere that one tretex equals 3 pieces of 13mm gypsum boards in insulation effect. Sounds plausible. The question is if I should leave the tretex board in the rest of the rooms and just put gypsum on top. I can probably arrange the electricity with the outer board left on.
Could there be any disadvantage to adding insulation on the inside of this construction? Same as in the picture but with brick on the outside. The important thing is probably not to add plastic and let the wall breathe. Or am I completely off base?
If you add insulation on the inside, for example 45 mm, you don't use plastic as you would get double vapor barriers. If you want to add more insulation, you have to dismantle down to the existing vapor barrier and remove it before adding more insulation. I have similar walls at home and I find them to be effective and insulating walls, the insulation is where it should be, i.e., it is tight against the studs and does not sag.
Okay. So you hadn't added extra insulation or taken down the tretex. If I understand you correctly, it's fine to leave it as it is and apply gypsum as a surface layer?
Adding insulation is generally always good, but as I mentioned, I feel that the walls are good. I had put OSB and gypsum on the outer walls precisely because fiberboard is not very reliable for screwing things into.
What about the diffusion-tight paper on the inside? In some places, I've torn away the Tretex board. The paper is damaged. Should I put on new plastic before I put up OSB and drywall?
As for the bathroom, there's no paper there and you probably don't want it either. The moisture protection is sufficient. You probably shouldn't have double vapor barriers.

I'm wondering that too... about spots where the paper is gone
