disturbing noise

Hi,
I have a house built in 1977 with an upper floor that has wooden flooring. When walking on the floor, disturbing noises can be heard downstairs. I am planning to replace the wooden floor and am wondering what is the best method or solution to completely eliminate or reduce the noise when walking on it. Do you have any recommendations or products that could help?

I have considered using levelling compound with mesh. Is this an effective solution or is it like throwing money down the drain? Are there better options for soundproofing when walking on the floor?

Is the sound from the impact on the stairs on the floor, or is it making noise because it creaks in the joists? If it's the former, you might want to consider placing dampening layers between the floor and the substrate. There are different thicknesses depending on the need. What is the current structure and insulation in the floor today?

Thanks for the feedback. The sound comes from the impact of the steps on the floor. I have tested in a bedroom with KÄHRS Vinyl floor 6 mm with Sound damping ΔLw = 20 dB (integrated IXPE damping) but it doesn't help.
