Our outer staircase needs to be demolished because we have to drain. We haven't really known how the construction underneath the patio looks until today when we removed the decking. Underneath, the wall from the old porch is still there. The staircase and the wall are connected. When the staircase is demolished, the wall connected to the staircase will also break. What would happen to the durability of the remaining part of the wall if the staircase is removed? As it is now, the support beams are attached to the house, then rest on the wall and are attached at the other end to cast foundations.
Tried to make a sketch of how it looks. The black thicker line is the wall. The three circles on the right are support points for the patio.
This is how it looks underneath. You can glimpse the wall a little bit, but it wasn't easy to photograph in the strong light today with the phone.
What do you think? If the wall doesn't hold, what would be the best way to transfer the load so the entire patio doesn't collapse?
Hi..
To do the drainage properly, everything needs to be removed, this entire part is an extension,..
I assume there's a roof over the patio section..
Brace as the picture shows and remove everything else so that the excavator can access..
You can keep the wall on the gable end, as well as the beam underneath, the excavator should be able to save it.
There's still so much that needs to be redone when the floor is put back, so just demolish.
Eti..
