Hi!
We have just renovated the living room. Removed wallpapers, sanded, applied putty, put up paper tape, and fixed everything by the book.
We primed and then applied two coats of wall paint. After two days, the tapes have started to come loose or crack in the middle.
This is happening with almost all the tapes.
Could this be due to the settling of the house or are we just bad at it?, hehe.
The house is from 1940, has a concrete basement, and is built on rock.
How did you attach the paper tape? It is recommended for amateurs to glue the tape with wallpaper adhesive, as in my opinion, it is rather difficult to manage with joint compound.
It's particle board that the previous owners had put up, and we spackled over it. They said at K-rauta that it would work fine. We spackled a layer, pressed the strip in place, and then spackled over the strip.
Okay, then unfortunately it looks like you didn't manage to secure the tape properly in the filler. I've experienced this myself and during the sanding work it looked fine, but when the paint dampened the surface, the tapes came loose. After that, I've always used våtrumslim and it has, knock on wood, not let me down.
Yes, even though it stings, it's probably the only right thing to do. I think you'll have a hard time salvaging that. My experience with particle board as the outermost wall material is limited, so I would try on a seam and do all the steps on it to see that it works before tackling the whole room.
