Thinking of building a bike shed in a carport model - four posts and a roof. My questions concern the dimensions.

The construction will measure 2500*2500 (height 2200). I have some 70*70 posts left over that I plan to use to support the roof. I'm considering whether a 70*70 post can also be used as a rafter for the roof structure. I plan to lay rough boards and then shingles on top.

The calculation examples I find are for 45mm rafters, and 45*70 seems too weak, even for a lighter construction.

Does anyone have an assessment if a 70*70 post would hold as a rafter with a 2500mm free length and cc60? Or will it sag?

More information is needed. Roof angle? Snow zone?

If you split the posts and screw-glue them together to 30 x 140, it will be stronger. (Someone else can calculate if it holds.)

Yes, it will sag significantly in the middle. Several cm. However, if you glue and screw them together vertically, it will be great. Otherwise, the minimum dimension is probably 45x145 C 24. I would probably choose 45x170 C 24.

Thank you for the response!

Adding a bit more: Snow zone 2 and a 10-degree monopitch roof. Still feels like it's necessary to increase the dimension.

As mentioned, it is a bike rack. The risk with under-dimensioning is that it will soon look unattractive. Otherwise, such a construction should be able to stay fresh for a long time.

Thanks for the good answer, I will follow your recommendations.
