I'm going to install mounts for gymnastics rings in a wooden beam. What type of screws are recommended to handle the appropriate weight?

What weight should they be able to handle?
Best regards

Swing hooks have worked before, but if it's a tjocksmock that's going to hang and dangle, there's a heavy-duty French screw.

What does the beam look like then? If it's freestanding, you could make some screwless construction so you don't have to screw at all.

Should hold for a normally heavy child…

The idea is to attach according to the picture. Wooden beams and planks with a circled joint, illustrating a suggested fastening method for supporting a child's weight.

If it can only be accessed and turned from one side, a coarse French or similar is preferable. If you can access both sides of the rule, it's even easier and much stronger to use a through bolt with a nut and washer.

Isn't there any kind of beam shoe that has a mount for something with a screw and nut? Then you could just slide it up and screw sideways with several smaller screws and then attach any mount downwards in the shoe.

God, how complicated everyone is making it. For a child, two regular heavy hooks will suffice.
If you want to be on the super-safe side, buy hooks that are attached to a plate where you can use four screws. Like this one:

  • Metal wall hook with plate for four screws, featuring a strong clasp.

To clarify, I already have intended brackets with 2 or 4 (can't remember right now) screw holes in each.

Alright then. Are you unsure they will hold? Upload a picture and you can get an answer. :)

Were you perhaps more wondering what type of screws to attach the plate with then? Use the thickest wood screws you can find that will fit through the holes in the plate. 50mm and upwards in length.

Yes, exactly what I was wondering. :) Thank you!

I'm using bryggring in the beams of my garage roof. Works great!

Not obviously good since the rule seems narrow and you don't really want to screw too close to the edges. Axhans classic screw feels better. Or, as mentioned, just a nail band around.

We used a trapeskrok for our swing, attached to a 45x120 beam.
