Hello
We have black windowsills that I've always thought were stone, it sounds like it when you put down flower pots a little too hard...
The house is from the early 1930s, and I think the slabs are from that time.
How can I be sure that it's stone and not eternit? I can't find any markings on them.
Attaching pictures in case there's an expert here on the forum who can take a look.
They look exactly like the windowsills I have in the basement, and they are made of eternit! However, it's completely harmless unless you plan on sawing them into small pieces without a breathing mask.
Thank you for the quick response @term
I tried zooming in on one of the edges where a chip has disappeared, see the image below.
And it looks exactly like a stone-cut surface to my eyes, but maybe that's how it looks with asbestos/eternit as well?
The ones I have completely lack press marks. The structure looks exactly like the windowsills in the picture, similar to some sort of composite concrete. The label with the brand "ETERNIT" is still there. Whether other windowsills were manufactured without asbestos under the Eternit brand, I am more uncertain about.
Did you get a response from the stenhuggeri?
I would be very surprised if it isn't natursten.
These should know, I'm looking for natursten for a windowsill myself and they can probably answer: http://www.gnsnatursten.se/?page=contact#
Did you get an answer from the stonemasonry?
I would be very surprised if it is not natural stone.
These probably know the answer, I am also looking for natural stone for a windowsill and they can probably answer:

Hi
I actually chipped off a piece and sent it for analysis and it was definitely not any asbestos/cement board, so that was a relief.
Crazy how paranoid you can get about asbestos, spent several thousand now to get certainty on what in hindsight are quite obvious results.

Hi!
Found the thread and realize I'm replying late, but I have the same type of window sills. Did you find out what the stone is called and do you know where to get it?
Best regards
Fredrik
Not seen this thread before, but I'm guessing these windowsills are the "original" which were later (with not too successful results) attempted to be imitated with eternit!

Hi
Yes, that could be the case, took it down and happened to place it over a small edge of the carpet, and it broke into 2 parts and smelled like freshly split "granite/gneiss".
I have now ordered a new one as similar as possible, it ended up being "Nero Assoluto".
Reviving this old thread as I'm wondering what it is in the eternit window sill that smells so strong? Smells like oil/burnt tires. I'm building a new wall and have to cut off a piece of the board and now I've come halfway (with a respirator obviously), but damn it smells...
