Hello.

In our old functionalist house, there are sturdy baseboards. When we build new, we want to complement with similar baseboards, but if you go to the hardware stores, you only(?) find traditional baseboards if you want tall ones. Aren't there any smoother ones?

Do you have any tips on a well-stocked baseboard place in the Stockholm area?

You can buy regular lumber in the right dimension and mill them to the desired shape. Because I assume you just want a beveled edge at the top???
Moreover, "home-milled" looks quite nice as it gives that old fine touch, since it doesn't look machine-perfect.
A little linseed oil paint on it and you're all set...

Additionally, you might need to buy a hand router if you don't already have one.
Just a little thing like that ;)

hmm.. one MORE electric gadget i.e... :D

Sure, if you want something done right, do it yourself, but sometimes you can't be bothered to do everything yourself....

Yes, it's something like what you are describing that we are looking for.

The place is located on Tomtebogatan in what I call Birkastan ;D and I don't know the name or address, but the door says "lister." They have a large range of special moldings for turn-of-the-century houses, I don't remember about plain ones, but they should have those too. If you don't find one that fits, you can order a mold so they mill a special one just for you. The pricing is typical for Stockholm.

The place is on the left side of Tomtebogatan if you're coming from Torsgatan, and it's quite far up the hill.

As a recently relocated dalmas, I am severely allergic to Stockholm prices. Therefore, I am also skeptical about hiring a carpentry service here in Stockholm...

Has anyone found good profile maps online where moldings are presented? There COULD be ready-made moldings...

Gysinge Center for Building Preservation has various planed woodwork based on old models. I have their catalog but I think they are on the web as well.

Where I live (Värmland) there are at least a couple of companies with their own saw and planing mill. There you can get timber sawn and planed to any dimension. The floor molding you (Fasting) describe is quite simple, so it shouldn't be too expensive.

The baseboard will be a planed one that I will round off a bit on the top edge. I went in and checked out a house in Södra Ängby (functionalism style, of course), and they had those - very stylish.

15 mm thick, just over 100 mm high.

As for the ceiling moulding, it seems all hope is lost. The ceiling mouldings that were in that house are apparently not available in new production - darn! However, I won't give up and will keep searching constantly...

Sure, but they don't actually have too many moldings when you look. Sure, smooth baseboards are available in several material choices, but not in that many sizes - mostly in "apartment building" format, small in dimension.

Wondering how it went, did you find a good supplier of floor moldings, ceiling moldings, and perhaps window casings in funkis style?

We have renovated the old woodwork as much as possible in our old funkis house, but unfortunately, quite a bit has to be replaced. And I've also googled through most of the links above, and like you, found that everyone has traditional style, no funkis. Modern spray-painted (?) small fragile moldings are too boring.

Maybe some carpentry has had time to specialize in this since the thread started? *hoping* :)
