I have read several posts on the forum where it says to "kortla," but no explanation. Does it mean having horizontal studs between vertical studs or what is it?

Best regards, Carl

It means exactly as you write, you install short studs between long ones, for example, short horizontal studs between posts.

The reasons for installing kortlar are several, partly to achieve a stiffer construction, but also to facilitate the installation of heavy items, such as wall shelves.

Good that you write "kortla." For me, it is very clear that it has to do with "kort," that you are mounting short planks.

But often you see it spelled as it is pronounced; "kottla." This even in somewhat more "official" documents.

I have seen many different spellings instead of "kortla" or "kortling", probably because people have never read/written the word before, only heard it spoken.

People who "kottlar", are they using pine or fir cones? :)

Very good #Daniel78!
I am currently on a construction site in central Stockholm, official K-drawings by an engineer specify a task as "kottla." -"Never heard of it" I said, -"must mean "kortla".
...and I'm just a carpenter's son :)

http://www.fixartv.se/kottla :wow:

There is a thread here on the forum where the topic was discussed. There were proponents for both words.
