Hi,

I want to start by apologizing for the terribly bad photos, it's difficult to take pictures with a mediocre phone camera right after carrying a lot of heavy... "weak timber"??? :x

I have an old basement stairway with a wall of concrete hollow blocks, there's no indication of reinforcement. For a long time, part of the wall has settled and come loose, and I removed this piece over the weekend because I'm afraid it will topple over someone... I have a 3-year-old boy who is everywhere he shouldn't be ;)

The piece I've removed is about 2 meters wide and 1 meter high, and it needs to be replaced. Now the question is how to proceed, should I lay bricks with reinforcing bars or should I reinforce and cast? The plan is to create a patio with cobblestones adjacent to the stairs, so I will be compacting the surface above... therefore I want to do it the right way so I don't get new settlements.

I can add that in the picture, it looks like the rest of the wall has also cracked, but upon inspection, it's only the plaster. I suspect the wall was originally built crooked and then adjusted with quite a thick plaster... up to 3 cm.

I'd gladly receive any tips on how to solve this.

Thank you in advance!

//Peter

  • Concrete basement steps and wall with missing section, showing exposed earth and a plastic container in the background.
check out somsten.se they have people who fix that kind of thing.
such cracks can also appear on a reinforced surface.
