The upstairs in our newly purchased house has been undeveloped since the house was built. The work on finishing the upstairs has now reached the stage of insulating the sloping ceiling (1 1/2 story villa).

Should one use oil-hardened masonite, which resists moisture a bit better, or is "regular" masonite sufficient for the air gaps in the sloping ceiling?

Agreed - common / JoGi

Thanks, it will be "regular" masonite.

There was also a difference in price of about a factor of 4 ;D

The shiny side facing the house or towards the actual air gap??

The shiny side facing outwards, in case water comes, it flows better on the shiny side.

The shiny side also does not absorb like the rough side.

Has anyone tested Isovent for building an air gap?

I isolated and built an air gap on my roof, oil-hardened masonite was "overkill" according to the building supply store, of course, a thunderstorm came on half the roof :(

That masonite can get so thick >:(
