Hello!
We are planning to replace our current staircase to the upper floor and are looking for tips and ideas on possible solutions. The existing staircase takes up a large part of the room, which we would like to turn into a children's room, so we want to save as much floor space as possible.
We have an existing concrete opening of 137 x 90 cm. It's quite narrow at the top, but the opening is larger and more open at the bottom, giving us more leeway for the shape and footprint of the staircase. This makes us think that a wooden spiral staircase, or a combination of spiral at the top and straight at the bottom, could work well.
Our questions:
1. Do you know any manufacturers that offer wooden spiral staircases that can be adapted for narrow openings?
2. Has anyone built or purchased a combined straight/spiral staircase? We saw examples at Bygera but found it difficult to find more.
3. If we ultimately need to make a larger opening – what could it cost to chip away and reinforce a concrete structure by 10–15 cm?
I am attaching pictures of the staircase and opening as it looks today. All tips, experiences, and ideas are warmly welcome! 🙏
