Hello!

I would like to demolish 3 walls between the kitchen and the living room. The walls are about 8 cm wide and are not made of brick, concrete, or lightweight concrete. They are hollow. I have read about self-supporting trusses in the attic and that if so, the walls under the attic would not be load-bearing. I have been up in the attic and checked under the insulation and there is nothing resting on the walls, neither roof trusses nor anything else. Do you need to reinforce in any way if the walls contribute to the house's stability, or can you safely demolish them? I'm attaching pictures from the attic as well as blueprints. I would really appreciate any tips I can get.

Best regards, Christian

  • Attic space with exposed wooden roof trusses and scattered insulation materials, showing an unfinished and cluttered storage area.
  • Blueprint showing attic beams layout, detailing spacing and structural configuration, with Swedish caption "Bjälkar på vinden" at the bottom right corner.
  • House floor plan showing kitchen and living room layout with three marked interior walls for removal consideration. Handwritten notes and measurements visible.
  • Blueprint showing kitchen and dining area layout with blue X marks indicating non-load-bearing walls to be removed.

What is the point of tearing down the walls?

Do you want cooking smells and noise in the living room?
Then an alternative solution is to place a construction fan in the doorway between the dining area and the living room. That should give the same result at a lower cost.

Additionally, you can easily turn off the fan if you change your mind...
