Hello,

I'm doing some minor renovations on a cottage that was fully renovated in the '80s!

I might install a stove connected to the flue that exists at the "fireplace" in the picture, but of course, the dreadful brick must be removed, and it will be plastered to align with the older upper edge. That's what I've been thinking..
Note! The plaster, which easily crumbles, is also behind the wall panel.. SHOULD I address everything before sanding paint residue/old filler and putting up the new wallpaper.. Perhaps I still need to tear down the wall panel, and the expensive wallpaper will go to waste?

(It wasn't me who smeared near the ceiling; someone else also smeared down along one long side over the gray)

Grateful for advice, Newb*
