Hello,

We've had a country house for more than a year now. So far, I've renovated the crawl space, done drainage work, built a small house, taken down an interior wall, and built a deck. And everything has gone relatively well. So the next natural step is to build patio doors, of course.

I don't know how to do this. But I can guess pretty well. And Google is my friend (and buildahouse.se) The wife wants at least two doors that are at least 55 cm each and they should open outward.

I assume the house is built with cc60 spacing in the framework but haven't had the chance to open it up and check yet. I thought I’d remove some siding and measure as the first thing I do. Then I hope they built with something like cc80 so I can avoid adding two framework studs.

What do I do next? Do I put a robust laminated beam over two support studs where the patio door will be? Or just above the support beams at a joint distance from the door frame? And then use some good pieces (45 studs?) going up from the laminated beam to the underside of whatever is below the top plate? Or is there another good solution? I want to submit drawings to the municipality as soon as possible so we can start before the vacation.

I don't have a good picture of where the doors should be. But imagine them behind the blue chair.

Red cottage with a red roof, surrounded by trees and grass. A wooden deck is in front, with outdoor furniture and a blue chair in the sunlight.

Best regards,
Jonas
