Surface-mounted insulation, on or outside the slab?

Hello!

Why is it sometimes depicted that the external insulation is inside and sometimes outside the slab? Does it matter? Which is better/worse and why?

I will have my external insulation inside the slab. Otherwise, the facade will protrude insanely far. Additionally, the bearing studs will be more centered on the edge beam.

I think this seems to be the common solution. Where did you find the other one?
