Considering replacing 2 windows with a 3-section window instead. Is it enough to place a 220 beam resting on the standing beams on the sides of the windows if I want to remove the post between them?

  • Exterior view of a partially renovated house wall with two windows, insulation visible, and a ladder leaning against the side.

NOTE it is a bit difficult to see in the picture but there is only one plane where the current window is.

The post doesn't seem to support anything even though there are two rafters spanning over the windows. ?

The post in the middle supports part of the load from two rafters/floor joists. A 45*220 C 18 holds, but you should double both posts at the outer sides of the windows.

Okay, so you think I also need to reinforce the sides. I'll see if it's possible to access from the inside since the facade is newly renovated and additionally insulated. The picture was taken before the insulation and the paneling was put up.

Yes, in principle, you take that double middle post and place half under each end of the beam..

It is only the 2m shallow felt roof that it supports. The upper floor of the house is in the original house structure.

  • Yellow wooden house with red roof and a small balcony, set against a clear blue sky with a patio and outdoor seating in the foreground.
  • Red-roofed house with an upstairs in the original structure, surrounded by trees and a clear sky.

Then I misunderstood the picture.

Yes, I suspected that when you mentioned floor beams. Hard to see what it looks like from that angle. Do you still think that double studs are needed?

Probably not, and 45*220 is unnecessarily coarse, 45*150 is sufficient.
