Straight 45-studs of high quality?
Hope I landed in the right forum section now.
I'm going to build a fence and I'm looking for 45x45 battens to have horizontal pickets. I'm trying to read up on quality but can't seem to find battens of better quality. Any tips on where I should look and/or what markings I should look for?
Happy to pay as long as they are straight and don't warp

There's only one solution, visit some lumberyards near you in person. If you find a lumberyard that has the timber indoors, you'll have a better chance of finding straight, fine, non-twisted 45x45.
- Pick out studs that are straight and not twisted ("corkscrews").
- Unload them immediately when you get home (preferably indoors) and bind them tightly with straps, so hopefully, they'll hold their shape until you've fastened them to the fence.

This was gloomy reading, but thanks for your responses
I found C24, kärnfuru might be harder to find spontaneously.
It will be used as below, but it sounds like it's not advisable to paint these on sawhorses before assembly, will they warp then? It's a bit messier to paint once they're in place:

Are finger-jointed an option?
Otherwise, I want it straight, then I'll plane it. The more crooked, the more shavings.
My experience is that some warp. It doesn't matter if they're at the top or bottom of the pile. You can force them straight, but as soon as they get the chance to warp, they do. Nowadays, I make strö out of warped ones.

How did it go for you?L Lund said:
I'm planning to do exactly the same thing, Öckerö from Jabo and then painted 45x45. I don't know if I should use pressure-treated wood and paint after a season, but then I'd have to take it down to paint...
I chose mainly for aesthetic reasons to go with 28x70 and it has held up fine over the winter. Unfortunately not an answer to your question 😀F fekberg said:
