Hello!
I live in an apartment and got broken into in December, and therefore reported that they broke off the door latch holding the lock to get in. It then took three months before it was fixed... or well, fixed? Is it normal for professional craftsmen to do it this way? Self-tapping screw? (See image)

Shouldn't there be a screw like the one above that has some durability?

Should I be satisfied with this? Also thinking from an insurance perspective...

Yes, that screw was nothing to write home about... But if a thief has broken into the basement storage and has crowbars, then none of these screws will make any difference, both will easily break. However, I would still screw in a thicker one down there, just to be safe. There's no reason to lower the bar unnecessarily.
