Hello,
I have some vertical 45x45 screwed into a sill in a greenhouse, these are at the short ends.
The idea is to pull string between these and attach threads to planting boxes in these horizontal strings, but I think 45x45 might be weak and flex.
I'm looking for tips on how to reinforce these, it's not possible to brace so I'm thinking maybe a steel profile 15x15 bolted to the 45x45 timber.
Tips?

The logical thing would be to put an overhead beam between them or 45 degrees from at least halfway down.
Even with steel recessed, the fastening to the bottom plate becomes a point that will be loaded quite a bit otherwise.

Hi,
I prefer not to "waste space" with "supports" in the greenhouse and try to keep it open, hence the idea with steel.
If I have studs on the long sides, it probably won't help the wire in the ridge.
Maybe I should try it in the summer and see how it turns out, there's no risk of breaking but it's not so nice if it buckles :(

I'm not quite following, if you have the vertical beams on the gables reaching up to the ridge and also attached to the ridge, then there shouldn't be any problems, as they are anchored both at the floor and the ceiling, so to speak. I thought they were freestanding on the long sides. A beam between these would help since the "string" would want to pull the beams inward, which this beam would prevent.

Otherwise, if the load isn't too heavy, maybe you could just attach solid angles at the attachment points, as that's where the load should lie if the tops of these beams aren't attached to anything upwards...
