Span between floor joists on a patio/deck
Hello!
We are going to replace our old deck. It is built on four concrete piers and measures 3.1x2.2m. It has a sheet metal roof.
We plan to use 195x45 for the support beams and attach floor joists 145x45 with joist hangers. The floor joists will be 3.1m long to have the decking in the desired direction. There will be three floor joists between the support beams (at 2.2m).
Our question is whether the span will be too large (3.1m) with support beams only at the edges, and if we need to reinforce with an additional pier and support beam in the middle?

A rule of thumb I've been taught is to have no more than a maximum of 2 m between footings in all directions.
I would build in larger dimensions, I myself have 45x195 for the girders (which of course have a maximum of 2 m between the footings
) and 45x170 with c/c 60 as joists.
Our deck is as solid as concrete, has 28X120 decking, what are you planning to use?

borrowing this thread a bit...
I'm calculating a bit on our new patio.
Distance between blocks 1.5 m
bearer 170*45
The span of the joists is 2.6 m.
I've looked around a bit and the tables say to go with 170*45 but I'm considering skimping a bit and going with 145*45 instead (and save about 1500kr) and compensate by using offcuts as blocking between the joists.
Is this a viable way?
