Recently moved into a house with my partner who plays drums. In one corner of the basement (as far away as possible from the bedrooms located at the other end of the house), there is a suitably sized room that we both feel is perfect for a drum room.
Now we're thinking a lot about soundproofing. We would preferably avoid tearing down and rebuilding, and we feel the room is large enough to lose some floor space if we build on the walls "from the inside" - but with what? Is there a good solution or are we completely left to padding the walls with mattresses or arranging "professional soundproofing"?
I was thinking of something like putting up an extra interior wall and in the space created between these and the existing walls, stuffing in... well, something. But I know nothing about this and would gratefully accept tips and advice!

If there is enough space, you can build a "room within a room". It can provide very good soundproofing if done correctly. Drum sounds have a tendency to penetrate almost everything...
After some extra measuring, it seems like it should be possible! The room is located in a corner of the house; does the inner room need to have four walls, or are two sufficient if you let the other two be the house’s exterior walls?
