Now, the thoughts about the carport construction in front of the garage begin. There will be 6 115*115mm glulam posts on each side supporting their own 225*115 glulam beam, upon which a saddle roof with pre-made trusses will be placed. Everything is already calculated and ready. The posts will stand on the piers with shim plates in between.
I will oil, prime, and paint the posts before they go up. Once there... How should I best secure the innermost posts to the facade of the garage? As seen in one of the pictures, there is a standing stud inside, but offset from the center of the post. Should I aim to secure the post to the stud, or is it "enough" if it's attached to the panel? I'm thinking post, panel, slats, stud; we're up to about 160-170mm before reaching the standing studs from the outer part of the post. Should I drill holes for screws, or should I use coarse wood drill directly? Or is it enough with profiles that hold the post on each side into the panel?
Bolts for the posts in the piers, type galvanized hexagon with nut?
Once the posts are up with the glulam beams, how would you stabilize both sides before the trusses go on? Diagonal braces straight across? Or diagonal braces down to the ground? I feel that I want them there all the time until the sheathing is on the roof and the stationary diagonal braces are fixed.
For the diagonal braces that I will have permanently later, I would like to see some examples if anyone has
Including some pictures of the proposed posts, the garage facade, and where it will be.
