Hi, hope this is the right forum, first time writing. I am going to fix the surfaces in our rather large stairwell/hallway. There are plaster walls with a top layer of wood chip wallpaper that has started to peel in some places. Under the wood chip wallpaper, there are an additional 1-2 layers of older wallpaper.

I've tried to steam off the old wallpaper in another area, but it was an absolute nightmare.

So I'm considering renovation plasterboard. Just put it over and start anew. But how to attach it?

My current thought is to try to remove the old wallpaper where it’s loose and then glue up the renovation plasterboard and use screws in some places?

Or should I just use screws? If so, which type works to attach to the older plasterboard?

Grateful for advice!

Screw it into the studs behind. Should be mounted at regular intervals, typically 60 cm.

Thanks, maybe a stupid question but how to find the studs the easiest? The house has offered quite a few surprises in its construction so far, so I'm not sure you can count on it being 60cm 😀

With a magnet, you can find the screws. If they are not magnetic, there are stud finders available for purchase or rent.

I would supplement with glue if you're using thin renovation plasterboard to reduce the risk of movement.
