I posted the question below elsewhere in the forum and got the suggestion, which was also the only response, to post it here instead.

I am planning to renovate an old outbuilding that once served as a barn and need to find someone who can size a renovation of the roof structure.

Originally, the roof structure was essentially a Swedish truss (https://goo.gl/images/zC5Swp), where the support leg was longer than in the picture and had support downward/outward where the joists of the mezzanine went into the wall walls. Later (in the 40s), someone lowered (!) the ceiling height in the barn by moving down the mezzanine. In conjunction with that, the support legs were cut at the height of the top of the wall and the trusses took on a look roughly according to the picture above. They then complemented with a longitudinal carrier beam that supports where the tie beam connects to the top frame. The carrier beam rests on posts standing on the wooden floor. The wooden floor and mezzanine are fairly deteriorated and the low ceiling height in the former barn makes it moderately useful. My thought was to assemble the trusses by mounting a lower frame that rests on the wall crowns so that they become like "regular" trusses. However, the house is a bit too large for me to attempt sizing it solely with rules of thumb and "by feel." Is there anyone who can recommend someone who can size this, preferably at a reasonable cost?

It sounds like you need to consult a civil engineer. You can find one at www.sbr.se Quite a bit more facts and conditions are needed to dimension correctly (and sleep well even when there's a storm outside..)

Yes. A structural engineer or someone else who can design wood structures would be good. I hope that someone on the forum might have a designer to recommend.
