I have had to tear down part of the loft in my old barn after rainwater leaked in over a long period, resulting in part of the structure rotting. Now it has been dry for a couple of years with no signs that the damage is growing, so I think it's time to restore the loft.
The floor joists are 100x170mm at 1.2m centers, the floor planks are 28mm and 35mm in mixed widths, and it's a little over 3m between the wall and the bearing beam. Besides the torn-down area, I also want to replace the floor up to the next joist, as most of the planks currently there are under 1.2m.
What type of wood should I use? My first thought was to nail glue 2 or 3 pieces of 45x170 c24, is that reasonable? I also considered 115x180, but it's clearly more expensive. For the floor, the closest original I can find is 34x145 decking. It almost always seems to be sold treated, does that matter in this context? Are there other alternatives that are better?
