Considering converting the barn into a workshop and "garage" for lawnmowers and various small machines, but the floor of the barn above needs to be checked over, to put it mildly. The idea is to install a ceiling and so on down there, insulate, and add lighting so it's functional to be there even in winter.
I've run into a problem with how to handle the floor joists, they're in a dimension I've never encountered before and I have no idea how to attach new joists. The current ones are sized 175x160 (the right one in the picture) and the one on the left is 180x75. They rest in the cutout of the brick wall, so to speak.
I want the floor to hold for one or two cars at least; I won't have more weight than that in the barn above. So I doubt I need joists as thick as the current ones.
Has anyone encountered something similar and how did you handle it? Or does anyone have a good idea of what I should do?
The total length of them is just under 12m, and there are 2 sturdy steel beams that support at 4m and 6m.
