I have a hole in the drywall from an old anchor where I now want to place a new anchor to secure a screw. However, the hole is too large for the anchors I have found, and therefore I have tried to repair it with plaster plugs from Clas Ohlson. However, it doesn't hold for drilling anew and inserting a new anchor (despite claiming to handle it). Is there another method or some type of anchor that would fit? It's for screwing up a String shelf.

  • A hole in a white plaster wall, too large for standard plugs, intended to hold a screw for a shelf. Attempts to repair with plaster plug failed.
  • A wall with a visible hole above a tiled backsplash, next to a corner cabinet; a cordless drill is partially visible at the bottom.
If you're going to insert a new screw, you need to make a more substantial repair.

Cut out approximately 10x10cm of the drywall.
Take a piece of any board that is about 7x20 cm and insert it into the hole.
Screw it in place with 2 screws below the hole and 2 screws above the hole.
Put back the piece of drywall you cut out and screw it into the board. Bevel the edges with a knife first, both on the hole and on the piece of drywall.
Spackle, paint, and then it's done.

How big is the hole approximately? Could molly bolts work maybe? They come in different sizes and they don't pull on the actual board but expand behind the board so they are clamped in place. Otherwise, maybe plasterboard anchors could work.

Almost 20mm, I would guess. I don't think anything from the above will work. Now I have filled the holes anyway and will place the shelf slightly offset :) Thanks!

Oh well, then it might be difficult to study or something. That was probably the best option unfortunately (y)
